February work day. The first of the year..

The Trustees organise regular Work Days to ensure that the Garden is maintained and the fruit bushes and fruit trees are regularly pruned.
Our latest Work Day was on Saturday 8th of February 2025 and attended by ten hardy souls who rolled up their sleeves and worked hard to tick off the list of jobs.
Two people tidied the hedges which had been cut by a machine earlier in the winter. A few of the group were involved in pruning the apple trees and another group of people worked on thinning and laying the river facing hedge. The surplus brush was used to build a dead hedge along the riverbank to protect the bank from erosion, caused by wild swimmers accessing the river.
Our Work Days are always great times to socialise whilst working but also during a welcome tea and coffee break together.
At the end of the day there is a huge sense of satisfaction as the Garden always looks great after everyone’s efforts.
The next Work Day is Saturday 24th. May so please come along whether you have already signed up as a ‘Friend of Lydford Forest Gardens’ or not. Everyone is welcome and expertise is not essential as there is plenty of expertise amongst the team.
