May work day. The second of the year..

Lydford Forest Gardens Work Morning 16th. May 2026
We were very fortunate with the weather for our Work Morning. All the work was finished by 12.30 and just as the 9 workers were leaving, it started to rain! Perfect timing!
There was lots of weeding to be done around the blackcurrant and gooseberry bushes, brambles needed to be tackled, as ever, and brush cutting was needed for the areas that the ride-on mower couldn’t reach, e.g., underneath the benches and the signs. As the hazel bushes were getting too wide and, therefore, restricting light and even movement around the garden, they had to be heavily pruned. It was particularly encouraging to see new faces there. Naomi kindly provided sustenance in the form of tea, coffee and biscuits.
The Garden looked so tidy at the end of the morning! A particular highlight was the discovery of bluetits nesting in the bird box!
We are so thankful for the continued physical and financial support of our ‘Friends’ and villagers for this much-loved community garden.
Incidentally, our next Work Morning is scheduled for Saturday 19th. September. Save the date!
