February work day.  The first of the year..

The Trustees organise regular Work Days to ensure that the Garden is maintained and the fruit bushes and fruit trees are regularly pruned.

Our latest Work Day was on Saturday 21st of February 2026.

The weather was kind for our Work Morning, although there was a gazebo in the wings, just in case! There was plenty of work for the 12 multi-generational volunteers: filling in badger holes, pruning the blackcurrant and gooseberry bushes and also pruning the apple trees, which required some intrepid climbing! Lots of brambles needed removing and the hawthorn hedge along the western boundary needed thinning out ready for laying.

Some of the brush went to augment the dead hedge at the side of the footbridge. The rest was processed by Ted in his excellent wood chipper. The Garden looked so tidy at the end of the morning!

It was particularly encouraging to see two children as part of the team, as they could be the Trustees of the future! We are so thankful for the continued physical and financial support of our ‘Friends’ and villagers for this much-loved community garden.

Our Work Days are always great times to socialise whilst working but also during a welcome tea and coffee break together.

At the end of the day there is a huge sense of satisfaction as the Garden always looks great after everyone’s efforts.

The next Work Day is Saturday 16th May so please come along whether you have already signed up as a ‘Friend of Lydford Forest Gardens’ or not. Everyone is welcome and expertise is not essential as there is plenty of expertise amongst the team.
